Good Evening Everyone…

Enjoying a week off for October half term and I guess now is a good time to do some blogging!

So a couple of days ago I posted a general thought upon emotional strength. Another area which I am interested in is emotional eating. Is emotional eating an actual thing and can it be controlled?

Emotional eating is actually defined on Wikipedia as ‘overeating in order to relieve negative emotions’.

Sometimes people eat for comfort, if they feel upset, down or generally not in a good positive mood and without even taking much notice. Of course there is a complete difference between physical eating and emotional eating.

Physical eating appears to come on gradually and the need to overcome the hunger isn’t necessarily straight away, whereas emotional eating tends to come on suddenly and the desire to overcome this type of hunger is instant. Physical hunger is open to options and lots of things sound good whereas emotional eating craves your specific favourite foods and just never seems to be as completely satisfied as after eating a meal to overcome physical hunger. And the big difference between the two types of hunger is the way that it seems to make you feel. Eating to satisfy physical hunger doesn’t make you feel bad about yourself. On the other hand, eating to satisfy emotional hunger brings up feelings of guilt and shame

Emotional eating has generally been found to be brought on by stress, ignoring emotions, boredom, childhood eating habits and social influences from those around you and media.

Try this poll now to see how many of us believe we may be emotional eaters…

The diagram below considers ways to over come emotional eating.

I will shortly be commenting upon the poll results and I will have more blog posts coming soon!

Enjoy your week…
